Ratho is a popular village set in the Midlothian countryside approximately 10 miles west of Edinburgh. The village has a thriving local community and amenities include a well-regarded local pub, post office, doctor's surgery and primary school, as well as a number of shops. More extensive shopping amenities can be found a short distance away at The Gyle Centre or Hermiston Gait and there is a secondary school situated in Balerno.

The area is well served for recreational activities with access to the countryside for rural walks, the renowned Ratho Climbing Arena and a number of golf clubs. Regular bus services run to both Edinburgh and Livingston and there is excellent access to the M8, M9, Queensferry Crossing and Edinburgh International Airport.
