The Canongate, an area rich in culture and history in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, forms the lower part of the Royal Mile leading down to the Palace of Holyrood. Canongate properties are mostly tenement flats and mews homes. Popular local areas include The Grassmarket, The Pleasance and Calton Hill.
The narrow closes and lanes create a unique atmosphere and excellent local amenities include specialist shops, bars and restaurants. Edinburgh University, Edinburgh Art College and the new Scottish Parliament building are all within walking distance, as are the main shopping and commercial thoroughfares of Princes Street and George Street.
Excellent recreational facilities can be found at the Royal Commonwealth Pool and Sports Centre and Holyrood Park offers pleasant walks.
Regular bus services operate to various parts of the City
Centre and surrounding areas and Waverley station is a few
minutes away on foot.
