Dunbar is a town in East Lothian on the southeast coast of Scotland, approximately 30 miles east of Edinburgh and 28 miles from the Scottish-English border.
Its strategic position gave rise to a history full of incident and strife but Dunbar has become a quiet town, popular with commuters to Edinburgh, who find it an affordable alternative to the capital itself.

Dunbar has one train station called Dunbar Station. There is a direct train to Edinburgh Waverley that takes roughly half an hour. Some of the trains will be long-distance trains that are travelling to and from England. Please refer to the ScotRail website for more information.
Lothian Buses run two services out to Dunbar: the X7 and 106. Both routes stop at West Barns, East Linton and Haddington along the way. The two services start taking new directions at Haddington. Please refer to the Lothian Buses website for up-to-date bus routes and timetables.
The A1 dual carriageway passes by Dunbar with four slip road leading into the town. The A1 northbound heads towards Edinburgh while southbound it heads towards Newcastle.
Dunbar has both an Asda Superstore and a large Co-op. There is also a small Co-op, Morrisons Daily, Keystore express, and a collection of independent food shops in the city centre. There's also a zero-waste shop near the large Co-op.
Active and Outdoors
Dunbar has no shortage of outdoor activities both on land and in the water.
There are four beaches to choose from (Dunbar Beach, Belhaven Bay, Whitesands Beach and East Beach). There are several businesses in the local area that offer watersport lessons including surfing and paddleboarding.
Families will also love Dunbar Leisure Centre, Hallhill Sports Centre and East Links Family Park.
Golf enthusiasts have two clubs to choose from: Dunbar Golf Club and Winterfield Golf Club.
Footballers can sign up to Dunbar United FC.
Other active pursuits that are available in the area include West Barns Bowling Club, Dunbar Community Pétanque, Dunbar Tennis Club and Core yoga and pilates studio.
Other family activities include John Muir Alpacas, where children can join their parents for a walk along the beach with an alpaca!
There is a community hospital in Dunbar called Belhaven Hospital.
Dunbar has three NHS GP practices: Cromwell Harbour Medical Practice, Whitesands Medical Practice and Lauderdale Medical Practice.
