Interior trends for 2015
Trends for 2015 will be varied and you probably want to mix and match but not use every single one on our list as you may end up with a cluttered interior as a result.
Re-doing your interiors won’t have to cost a lot this year, take a look at what you have already and how to dress it up with dye or paint to help inject these new trends into your home whether you are looking to prepare your home for a sale or just rejuvenate it for yourself.
Texture and touch
Texture and touch is revamped this year by eradicating chrome and steel and introducing a royal flourish. Look out for gold fixtures to replace stainless steel; this could be anything from sink taps to plated lamp shades.
A quick fix can be to take dated steel furniture you may have lurking around and spray-paint it with a bronze gold finish to update it.
There is also a reintroduction of animal skins, faux of course, to help prop up faux fur accessories that made it into the trend forecast for the winter of 2014.
According to Lush Home, modern interior decorating materials will form the focus point of your interior design plan for 2015 saying:
“Salvaged wood, stone and metal are popular and modern interior design materials, especially fabulous rustic wood, natural light wood and exotic types of wood, colourful stained wood, warmly glowing gold and majestic bronze, elegant granite and luxurious marble.”
Back to patterns
Pair your textures carefully with geometric wall papers by testing swatches and seeing what works. A clean geometric wall paper goes well in a bedroom if the bed linen is white and pattern free and dressed up with some of the faux fur mentioned earlier.
Wooden furniture can be polished up to bring everything together and be the touch of ‘old world’ organic that is set to trend this year.
Keep up with the retailers
The new Spring/Summer collection from Ikea (pictured above) features items like the Dalshult/Slähult table and the Risatorp kitchen trolley (available from February 2015) will be the perfect addition to clean white furniture collected in 2014, minimalist but warm, this will see you through the year in style.
When it comes to accessorising, try the more affordable High Street shops before you head to the more expensive ones to help bring your interior look together.
John Lewis is celebrating all that is Spring/Summer 2015 by building on their John Lewis House collection with new additions based on 2015 trends for the next season. They explain:
“House has a pared-back aesthetic. The colour palette has been completely refreshed for spring to include softer hues of tangerine, mint and lime zest that add depth and variety. Pattern is an integral part of House and this season the focus is on geometrics and strong graphic lines, appearing on rugs, printed textiles and in the textured geometric surfaces of quilted cushions.”
Part of this collection (pictured below) are The Hex Cushion is £20 as well as the Otto Cushion in Orange pictured while the Balance Rug will bring a room together and is available for £100; all from John Lewis (johnlewis.com).
Colour de-coded
The colour forecast for this year is all about using bold, brave colour against paler shades to tackle winter head on and welcome summer all in one redesign; essentially a colour palette to last you all season.
House Beautiful suggests pairing Greek blue like the deep blue of the Mediterranean and the church tops of Santorini, along with perfect pairing colours such as grey or the in colour of the season, pale pink.
That pale pink has been drawn through the Autumn/Winter of 2014 through catwalks and interiors alike so keep going by pulling pastel palettes right through to Spring/Summer 2015. Christos Prevezanos of Studio Preveza said to Home Beautiful:
“I’ll be looking back to the pastel palette of LA in the 80s—optimistic colour combinations of orange and purple sunsets, green palm trees, aqua pools, and pink flamingos. It’s a muted palette with shocks of neon—Monet meets Molly Ringwald.”
