My home: Judy R Clark
Scottish fashions designer Judy R Clark, hailed by Vogue, tells us about the beauty of the Outer Hebrides and fashion shoots at Hopetoun House.
What’s your earliest memory of a house?
Our family home used to be belong to my great grandparents so has been passed down generations. It’s Victorian and painted red with yellow windows so it’s quite different. My first memories of the house is colouring in textured wallpaper.
Where would be your dream place to live?
I think Lewis or Harris would be great; I love the landscape and tranquillity.
Do you have a favourite building in Scotland?
Hopetoun House. We shot some fashion images there, the rooms and architecture is simply stunning.
A favourite place you visited on holiday, such as a hotel or villa?
I visited a really beautiful riad in a small town in Morocco, it was exquisite. The owner was French and made us feel so welcome.
How would you describe your home?
An eclectic mix of things from my travels, and I have some lovely art works from my friends which is great!
What’s your favourite home smell?
Homemade soup and bread.
What do you miss about home if you are away for a while?
We have two little cats, Viv and Westy, so it’s always nice to come home to them.
Do you have a favourite room in the house?
The kitchen, its painted sunshine yellow with stripped back turquoise blue doors with lots of family pictures on the walls…it’s the best place to make pancakes.
How are your DIY skills?
Not too bad, we tiled the bathroom, the kitchen, sanded the floors and painted the walls so I’m improving all the time
When was the last time you worked on your garden?
Recently we planted a new herb garden and some lavender for the summer.
Dinner at the table or in front of the TV?
At the table!
What’s your favourite thing to cook for the home?
Fresh salads in the summers and stews by the fire in the winter.
