Strathaven is a historic market town in South Lanarkshire and is the largest settlement in Avondale. The town was granted a Royal Charter in 1450, making the Town of Strathaven a burgh of Barony. Nowadays, the town is treated to be a commuter town to Glasgow. Despite its small population the city centre has a number of craft and gift shops. There town also has three primary and secondary schools.
