Mark Heyes: Why Edinburgh? With ESPC
Mark Heyes went to Glasgow School of Art from school to train as an illustrator and it was during that time that he realised he wanted to be in the world of fashion.Rather than start all over again, he said:
“I began to do styling with newspapers and companies in Glasgow. It was from there that I joined Chanel 4’s ‘She’s Got to Have It’ and went on to join GMTV.”
Now Mark spends some time chatting to ESPC's Lisa Venter during his time in Edinburgh for a hosting event. With property in Edinburgh ever increasing in demand, its not hard to see why with some of the attractions and highlights that Mark points out below.
Why Edinburgh?
Lisa Venter asks Mark just why he loves Edinburgh so much right here on espc.com
Lisa: You probably didn’t see yourself hosting Ladies Day at a major tennis event; can you elaborate why you are in Edinburgh and the importance of such events for the city?
Mark: Being a Scot I love to come back whenever I can. I love the whole concept of Ladies Day and fedoras and fascinators at a tennis event. I was delighted when I was asked to come along for this inaugural event. Andy Murray has truly put Scotland on the tennis map and it’s some time since tennis at this level was seen in Scotland. The list of players is fantastic guaranteeing some entertaining matches.

Lisa: What would you say is Edinburgh’s main appeal factor?
Mark: Edinburgh is Scotland’s Capital and there are many appealing factors from the Castle and the Scottish Parliament to the variety of restaurants and the shopping!
I believe that one of the key factors in its popularity has to be the history and heritage. There is something to be amazed about around every corner.
Lisa: Where would you recommend friends visiting Edinburgh go for a drink and then a meal?
Mark: Heavens, the choice is limitless! For drinks I think that One Square at The Sheraton is a very stylish choice and for dinner, Galvin Brassiere de Luxe at The Caledonian, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
Lisa: Where is your favourite place to shop here?
Mark: I am a fan of Harvey Nichols for the range of premium brands however, I have to admit to be being fan of all sectors and here in Edinburgh there is a great cross section to choose from.
Lisa: Off the top of your head, which three attractions or spots would you recommend people visit in Edinburgh?
Mark: Where to start! There is no doubt that Edinburgh Castle would have to be my number one, the firework display which is shown around the world at New Year has truly put the Castle on the world wide stage; next I think the Edinburgh Military Tattoo at the Castle. It is a fabulous showcase and tribute to our military personnel. Finally, Edinburgh Zoo and the pandas of course!
