Sanquhar is conveniently located almost exactly halfway between Dumfries and Ayr, making it the perfect home base for commuters to either larger town. It’s also on the train line between Glasgow and Carlisle, with regular trains to Glasgow with a journey time of just under an hour and a half. Sanquhar was an important hub for industry in the 18th and 19th centuries, and in more recent years, it’s been a popular location for outdoor enthusiasts, with the Southern Upland Way passing through the town, and the close proximity to several hill ranges including the Lowther and Scaur hills.
