Ten miles west of Kirkcudbright in Stewarty is Gatehouse of Fleet, a historic village with roots dating back to the 18th century. Once a thriving port town, which flourished thanks to its shipbuilding and cotton mill industry, Gatehouse is now a peaceful close-knit community, better known for its popular visitor attractions rather than its industry.
