Cold War ROC Nuclear Bunker, offered for sale in it's original condition. The Bunker enjoys a superb location on the Southern Upland Way, and the area of land at ground level has far reaching views over farm land to the Eildon Hills. The bunkers are based on a basic design. Internally consisting of a main area measuring approximately 15' x 7'6, where recording of information took place. A second closet sized room where the chemical toilet was located. There are no services currently, but these may be available nearby. Lighting may be arranged via a 12 volt battery. The area extends to approximately 50' x 50' (0.0574 acre/2500 Sq Ft). ; NT32703436 South of Traquair on the B709, 100 yards past the entrance to Damhead Farm on the opposite side of the road. Situated on a low mound on the north side of the field boundary. Access is via an overgrown wooden gate, in the roadside hedge, opposite Damhead Farm. The site is immediately adjacent to the road and may have possibilities for vehicular access. It is intended that the photographs and description supplied will be sufficient for interested parties to form an image of the interior. Access is via a vertical ladder as shown which can be slippery when wet. Please be advised that due to the nature of the property anyone intending to view does so at their own risk. Only genuinely interested parties will be given accompanied access. The road adjacent to the property is part of The Southern Upland Way and the surrounding area is a very popular location for mountain biking, riding and walking. The nearby River Tweed is a haven for salmon fishing and the countryside is idyllic, with the Eildon Hills, Traquair House, Peebles and Innerleithen on the doorstep. During the Cold War the ROC were given the task of recording the radioactive fallout in the event of a nuclear blast. To give members protection from the fallout the underground bunkers were constructed. Following the end of the Cold War, the nuclear threat diminished and the bunkers became redundant.
