Runner up for BBC Scotland’s Home of the Year 2019, this quirky 1970s semi-detached bungalow boasts bright colours and patterns throughout. Positioned in the popular Fife coastal town of Dalgety Bay and with accommodation arranged over one level, it would suit a multitude of buyers, from a young couple to a family to downsizers.

Little Blair House

BBC Scotland Home of the Year

It was after the unique home was featured in a magazine, that the BBC Scotland production team got in touch to invite the current owners to apply for Home of the Year.
It ended up progressing through to be one of the top three homes of the year in Scotland. Rachel, the current owner, was delighted with the “really great response” she received from locals and others to her home and the way she decorated it.

Exterior

Little Blair House has a special history for Rachel as it was previously owned by her Grandma who lived in it for ten years. When she moved out, Rachel and her family chose to buy it, and she not only transformed the interior but also the exterior.

“We saw a lovely house in Pittenwe’em with white walls and mint green window frames, which was our inspiration. We wanted to recreate the seaside feel.”

Colourful interior

In terms of the interior, Rachel said: “I’ve always been into colour, it makes me feel happy.” This is evident throughout the property with bright pops of colour in every room, and she has made use of patterns by the likes of Orla Kiely to add extra interest.

As a textile designer, her creativity shines through in the property, and since the BBC Scotland Home of the Year programme, Rachel has also been approached to do interior design professionally.

Accommodation

Little Blair House boasts two well-proportioned bedrooms, a beautiful bright living room with a dining area (which is Rachel’s favourite room in the house), a conservatory, a contemporary kitchen and a family bathroom.

It also benefits from an enclosed, easily-maintained rear garden with a raised deck, which offer the perfect spot to while away sunny days. There is also an open-plan garden to the front, with a well-manicured lawn, two beautiful mature trees and a chipped path to the entrance door.
