The historical capital of Edinburgh is well known for various attractions from the Palace of Holyroodhouse to Arthur's Seat but once a year, the city truly comes alive with hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world coming together to celebrate the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
With over 294 venues, the Fringe has something to offer for everyone, from theatre, dance, music to comedy - you won't be short on choice when it comes to planning dates for August diary. There are various pop up bars, restaurants, street food and street performers, make sure you get the chance to sit back, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy all that the city has to offer.

- Soaking up the atmosphere in George Street
Enjoy the hustle and bustle at the heart of the city centre on George Street. With many restaurants and bars extending their dining space, you can take full advantage over a lunch or maybe you fancy a few in the Aperol spritz tent? Live bands, music and shows available daily. - Forth on the Fringe
In its tenth year, Forth on the Fringe is back and better than ever. Presented by Forth 1's Boogie and Arlene, this event will give you a snippet of some of the biggest names and acts in the festival. Music, cabaret and dance all under the one roof. Only on 4th and 5th August so be sure to book your tickets as soon as possible as they will likely sell out fast. Tickets are £21 and more details available on the Forth 1 website.
- People watching at the Pleasance Courtyard
With various acts running morning until late and a large ourdoor beer garden, the pleasance is the perfect spot for people watching. With a KidZone for the little-ones, it caters for the full family. Irvine Welsh and Don De Grazia have lined up a dark, comic pop-opera which even features the original cast of Chicago which should be an interesting one to catch. Tickets at £14.50 and dates all throughout August.
- Dance the night away at Magic Nostalgic
Taking you through a musical journey by spinning a wheel to determine the next 30 minutes worth of songs. This night is a must for all pop, dance, hip hop and disco divas. The gilded Balloon hosts this fun event that some people may recognise from the former Electric Circus nights. Look out that air guitar and book tickets for what's guaranteed a good night. Tickets are £10 per person and eligible for group discounts.
- Edinburgh Military Tattoo
Arguably one of the most spectacular shows in the world, showcasing the talents of musicians and performers from every corner of the globe. Held at Edinburgh castle grounds, this year's event theme is 'Splash of Tartan'. The back-drop lighting and fireworks really make the night special, a not to be missed favourite. Tickets are varied from £12.50 - £62.50 depending on your seating area.
