Fringe by the sea
If you love the festival in August, but want to get out of the city, then Fringe by the Sea could be the perfect event for you.
ESPC is one of the supporters of Fringe by the Sea, which takes place in the coastal town of North Berwick, from 10th to 16th August and features a mix of local and international acts to enjoy while taking in the sea air and the beautiful East Lothian views.
Venues include the two Spiegeltents at the Harbour, Masonic Hall, Abbey Church and even at a chip shop - The North Berwick Fry.
Alan Davies and Elaine C Smith are two of the comedy acts, while international performers include Eddi Reader and Joan Armatrading. Liz Lochhead will be reading some of her best works from the last 50 years, accompanied by her friend Steve Kettley on saxophone, and New Rope String Bland will be doing their mix of world acoustic music and side-splitting comedy.
Wednesday 12th August is Saltire day, with events throughout North Berwick to celebrate the Scottish flag. Thursday 13th August is devoted to tribute acts, with Dirty Harry blasting out the Blondie hits and the Scottish Super Troopers paying tribute to Abba.
If you get hungry after all those acts, the food on offer is almost a festival on its own, with drinks at the Spiegeltents, coffee from Steam Punk, slow-cooked hog from Duke Street, pizza from the Big Blu and Graham’s ice-cream.
If you are visiting from further afield, you can hop on the last bus home, the number 124 at 00.15am, calling at Lonniddry, Prestonpans, Musselburgh and Edinburgh.
Tickets can be purchased from the website, fringebythesea.com, by phoning 07519723688, or from the Harbour Hub beside the Spiegeltents.
