Buying guide

Buying a new home is exciting and daunting. Follow these simple steps to make the whole process go smoothly.

  1. Find a solicitor estate agent

Organising your solicitor estate agent early on means that you can move really quickly once you’ve found the home you want. They will help you to understand the whole process and the costs involved.

  2. Speak with an independent mortgage adviser

They will talk you through how much you can afford to borrow and help you choose a mortgage that’s right for you. They can also organise an agreement in principle which gives you more confidence when house hunting.

  3. Get viewing

Start your search online, check out the ESPC Paper and don’t forget to browse solicitors’ windows. Nothing beats actually going and viewing properties in person. This gives you a real feel for the essentialsyou are looking for.

Found somewhere you really like? Always go back for a second viewing, ideally at a different time of day and try to remain objective.

  4. Making an offer

Speak with your solicitor about making an offer on the property you love, and make sure you’ve read the Home Report. Deciding how much to bid is the trickiest part of the whole process! Your solicitor will play a crucial part in this.

  5. Sealing the deal

When your offer has been accepted your solicitor will work hard to complete all of the legal work for you. Get your mortgage adviser on the case to complete the mortgage application.

You can now start planning where your furniture will go!
