South Side lies to the south of Edinburgh's Old Town, close to Newington and Holyrood Park, and stretches down towards Morningside and Blackford. The area is popular with students, with both the main University of Edinburgh campus lying along its northern border and Edinburgh Napier University Merchiston Campus lying a stone's throw away from the area's eastern border.

Transport

South Side doesn't have its own train station, however residents within the northern parts of the area live within walking distance of Edinburgh Waverley Train Station where they can take a train to other areas of Edinburgh, Scotland and the UK. Lothian Buses run several buses through South Side or nearby. The main bus routes through the area are the 5, 24 and 41. Green Space

The very popular Edinburgh Meadows is situated within the South Side. Residents towards the eastern border will also be within walking distance of Holyrood Park, home to Arthur's Seat.

Residents can sign up for a GP at Bruntsfield Medical Practice, Dalkeith Road Medical Practice, Marchmont Medical Practice and Meadows Medical Practice. There are also six dentists to choose from, with several more not far from the boundaries of South Side. 

Sport & Fitness

Craigmillar Park Golf Course lies not far from the southern edge of South Side and Prestonfield Golf Club can be found not far from the area's eastern boundary. 

Food Shopping

Residents in the south-west corner can walk to the Waitrose in Morningside. While residents in the south-east corner can walk to the ALDI and Sainsbury's in Cameron Toll. You can also find several branches of Sainsbury's Local and Tesco Express shops across the area.

Nightlife

Residents in the northern parts of South Side are within walking distance of the nightclubs on the Royal Mile and around Cowgate. There are also quieter pubs and bars in South Side itself.
